WELDER - Urgently required

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, the national minimum wage is R30.33 per hour effective 1 March 2026, equating to R5,914 per month for a 45-hour workweek. Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the normal rate for hours exceeding 45 per week. Welders must comply with this unless covered by a higher sectoral determination.

Foreign welders qualify for a Critical Skills Work Visa if their occupation is on the list as welders and flame cutting operators. Requirements include a job offer from a South African employer, SAQA-verified NQF Level 4 qualifications, and 5 years experience. The visa is valid for 5 years and leads to permanent residency after 10 years.

A National Technical Certificate N2 in Engineering Studies plus 24 months practical training at an accredited centre is required, followed by passing the trade test Parts A, B, and C. No prior experience is needed for apprenticeships, but qualified welders need 3 years post-qualification experience for senior roles. Certification is issued upon passing the test.
