As per the Ministry of Labour, the minimum basic wage for private sector workers including restaurant waiters is QAR 1,000 per month under Ministerial Resolution No. 13 of 2017, unchanged as of 2026. Employers must provide accommodation worth at least QAR 1,000 per month or equivalent allowance, and food allowance of QAR 300 per month if meals are not supplied. Overtime is paid at 125% of basic wage for the first two hours daily.

All non-Qatari workers require an employer-sponsored work residence permit from the Ministry of Labour, valid for one year and renewable up to five years. The employer applies via the MOL e-services portal for QAR 200 approval fee plus QAR 100 work permit fee. Required: passport valid for six months, medical fitness certificate (QAR 100), and police clearance from home country.

No formal education is mandated for entry-level restaurant cooks, but at least two years of relevant experience is required for work permit approval per Ministry of Labour guidelines. A food handler's certificate from an approved clinic (QAR 50, valid two years) is compulsory. Qatari nationals receive priority under Article 4 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2004.

Submit passport copy, four passport photos, attested educational certificates if applicable, and medical report to the employer. The employer secures MOL recruitment approval (free) then work permit (QAR 100) via unified portal, taking 7-14 days. Sign standard contract approved by MOL before visa stamping.
