As per the Chief Labour Commissioner notification effective April 2026, the minimum wage for security guards in Zone I is Rs. 1,200 per day, amounting to Rs. 31,200 per month for 26 working days. In Zone IV, it is Rs. 1,080 per day or Rs. 28,080 per month. Overtime beyond 48 hours per week is paid at twice the ordinary rate.

Under the PSARA 2005, candidates must be Indian citizens aged 18-60 years, have passed Class 8, and be physically fit as certified by a medical practitioner. They require 100 hours of mandatory training from a licensed private security agency. Ex-servicemen and police retirees are exempt from training requirements.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, voter ID or passport for identity, Class 8 certificate, medical fitness certificate from a registered doctor, and police verification certificate. Four passport-size photos and two character certificates from gazetted officers or neighbors are also needed. Submit these to a PSARA-licensed agency for 100-hour training.

As per the Contract Labour (R&A) Act 1970, security guards work 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week, with 1 weekly off and overtime at double rate. They get 12 days annual leave per year and 7 days casual/sick leave. Women guards are entitled to 26 weeks paid maternity leave under Maternity Benefit Act 2017.
