As per the Ministry of Labour & Employment notification dated 1 January 2026, the minimum wage for unskilled workers like office boys in Schedule Zone I (metros like Mumbai, Delhi) is Rs 20,568 per month for 26 working days. This includes basic wage of Rs 16,454 plus variable dearness allowance of Rs 4,114. Overtime is paid at twice the ordinary rate for hours exceeding 9 per day.

No minimum education qualification is mandated under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, but candidates must be at least 18 years old and physically fit for tasks like cleaning and errands. Employers prefer 8th standard pass for reliability, as per standard notifications on state labour portals. Indian citizenship or valid work authorization is required.

Required documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, 10th standard marksheet (if available), bank passbook, and two passport photos, as listed on the National Career Service portal. For EPF registration, employers need Form 11 with previous PF details if any. Submit online via NCS profile creation.

Under the Shops and Establishments Act, working hours are 9 per day including 30-minute break, totaling 48 hours per week as of 2026 amendments. Annual leave is 12 days after 240 days worked, plus 8 casual/sick leave days. Weekly off on Sunday is mandatory.
