Foreign nationals need a General Work Visa sponsored by a South African employer who conducts a labour market test proving no local available. The application fee is R1,520 with processing up to 8 weeks as of 2026. Visa duration matches the employment contract up to 5 years maximum.

No formal qualifications or prior experience are mandated under the Basic Conditions of Employment Act for packing staff roles. Applicants must be at least 16 years old, though most positions require age 18 and basic numeracy. Physical fitness for lifting up to 25kg is typically expected.
