Job Description
Our client, an automotive workshop in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, is looking for a skilled Trade Electrician to diagnose and repair vehicle electrical systems. You will trace wiring faults, install and programme vehicle electronics, test alternators and starter motors, and use diagnostic scan tools. Deep knowledge of modern vehicle electrical architecture is required.
Responsibilities
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to plan installations and troubleshoot circuit problems.
• Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergencies during and outside normal hours as part of a standby rotation.
• Install and commission solar photovoltaic systems including panel mounting, inverter connection, battery integration, and system configuration.
• Maintain accurate records of all work performed including test results, materials used, and time spent for job costing and compliance.
• Issue Certificates of Compliance after completing installations or repairs, verifying work meets regulatory requirements.
• Adhere strictly to occupational health and safety regulations including lockout and tagout procedures when working on energised equipment.

Requirements
• Thorough knowledge of SANS 10142 wiring code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act as applied to electrical work.
• For solar roles, demonstrated experience in photovoltaic system design and installation with relevant solar-specific certification.
• A wireman's licence issued by the Department of Employment and Labour and electrical contractor registration where required.
• A valid driver's licence with ability to travel to client sites as required, often carrying tools and equipment.
• A recognised trade certificate in electrical engineering or national diploma in electrical engineering from a registered institution.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment technical manuals.
• Proficiency in using electrical testing instruments including multimeters, insulation testers, earth loop impedance testers, and clamp meters.
