A Brief Overview
This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and child-centered environment for patients, families,
visitors, and staff. Security Officers in a pediatric setting provide not only protection but also compassion,
family-focused support.

Security Officers also respond to all emergency situations within the hospital, including behavioral health
events, safety threats and act as trained first responders in accordance with hospital protocols. The position
requires sound judgment, calm decision-making, and the ability to partner closely with clinical teams to support
safe patient care.

We are currently seeking candidates available to work the evening shift (2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.)

What you will do
• Provides for a secure environment by performing entry screening at fixed posts and patrolling buildings.
• Enforces all security and safety policies and procedures of the Enterprise.
• Reports all problems and emergencies to immediate supervisor, and documents security incidents with a written report and daily activity logs.
• Promptly responds to all calls and requests for service or emergencies.
• When assigned, patrols the immediate surrounding areas and all parking areas utilizing a patrol vehicle or on foot.
• Screen individuals entering facilities; check employee ID and visitor badges; enforce CHOP’s rules and regulations; and confirm that all visitors, vendors, and contractors are authorized to be on the property and have been signed in. Escort unauthorized persons from facilities.
• Screens all individuals entering the facilities to ensure that they have a business purpose to be in the building.
• Checks ID badges, and ensures that all visitors, employees, and contractors wear badges as required.
• Confirms that all visitors, vendors and contractors are authorized to be on the property and have been signed in.
• Ensures that all individuals comply with the Enterprise's rules and regulations.
• Escorts all unauthorized persons from the property.
• Provides security escorts when requested for employees, patients, patient families and visitors.
• Completes a security escort assignment throughout the Enterprise as directed by a supervisor.
• Notifies supervisor when directly requested to provide an escort by any personnel.
• Provides the escort with a friendly demeanor in accordance with our ICARE values.
• Screens individuals for weapons and/or prohibited items.
• Screen individuals for weapons and prohibited items, using a handheld or walkthrough/by detection device where appropriate. Document and secure identified items.
• Where appropriate, uses either a handheld or walkthrough/by weapons detection device to identify weapons or prohibited items.
• Any identified weapons or prohibited items are appropriately documented and secured.
• When appropriate, returns the weapons or prohibited items upon the individual leaving the property.
• Responds to patient restraint events as needed
• Assist clinical teams with the management of aggressive patients.
• Hold limbs of patients while restraint devices are applied, or a medical procedure is completed by clinical team members.
• Responds immediately to all routine and emergency situations as directed by a Supervisor, Base Operator or by witnessing firsthand.
• Responds promptly to all routine security calls and notifies Base of outcome.
• Provides support during helicopter landings.
• Acts as a member of the Fire Brigade during fire alarms.
• Participates as needed in all Emergency Preparedness Events.
• Intervenes as necessary in verbal and physical conflicts to ensure the safety of all persons.
• Promptly respond to emergency calls and requests for service. Document security incidents and report emergencies to supervisor.
• Assists with on campus situations
• Identifies and documents all illegally parked vehicles.
• Notifies supervisor to call for tow truck and/or police services as may be necessary.
• Assists parking team members as necessary with parking related matters.

• Provide support during helicopter landings, fire alarms, and emergency preparedness events. Intervene as necessary in verbal and physical conflicts to ensure safety.

Education Qualifications
• High School Diploma / GED Required
• Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Management or related field Preferred

Experience Qualifications
• At least six (6) months of experience in security, public safety, emergency services, behavioral health, or similar high-interaction roles requiring de-escalation and incident response. Required
• At least one (1) year of security experience in hospitals, law enforcement, other related Criminal Justice agencies, or military duty with honorable discharge Preferred

Skills and Abilities
• Basic proficiency with on-line training, computer-based incident reporting, access control/alarm, weapons detection, and closed-circuit television [CCTV] systems (Required proficiency)
• Basic proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including email & calendar (Outlook) (Required proficiency)
• Strong verbal and written communications skills (Required proficiency)
• Strong conflict resolution skills (Required proficiency)
• Ability to respond quickly and calmly where individuals may be exhibiting negative or threatening behavior (Required proficiency)
• Ability to operate a company vehicle and/or be insured on a CHOP policy required (Required proficiency)
• Ability to work all shift times, and rotate between shifts as needed required (Required proficiency)
• Ability to wear a respirator device required (Required proficiency)
• Experience with de-escalation techniques (Required proficiency)
• Ability to manage high-stress or emotionally charged situations (Required proficiency)
• Experience in environments with vulnerable populations (patients, families, behavioral health) (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
• Driver's License - Department of Motor Vehicles - upon hire - Required and
• PA Act 235 - Pennsylvania State Police - within 4 months - Required and
• CPI Training - Crisis Prevention Institute - within 6 months - Required
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety - upon hire - Preferred
