Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and professional Outdoor Plaza & Perimeter Security Supervisor to oversee daily security operations within a privately owned public space (POPS) and all outdoor areas contiguous to the commercial building, including sidewalks, entryways, and surrounding perimeter zones. This role is responsible for supervising security personnel, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and enforcing site-specific rules and regulations.

Preference will be given to candidates with prior law enforcement supervisory experience, particularly retired NYPD supervisors.

This position reports to the Director of Security

Key Responsibilities:
• Confer daily with the Director of Security and brief on conditions and observations.
• Supervise and direct outdoor security staff assigned to the plaza and all contiguous exterior areas
• Monitor activity within the plaza, sidewalks, and building perimeter to ensure safety and compliance
• Enforce rules and regulations of the privately owned public space (POPS) and adjacent outdoor areas in a fair and consistent manner
• Maintain outdoor high-visibility presence to deter unwanted or unsafe behavior
• Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergencies in a calm and professional manner
• Coordinate with building management and local authorities when necessary
• Ensure regular patrols are conducted of all exterior zones, plaza’s, including entrances, exits, and surrounding areas
• Prepare detailed incident reports and daily activity logs
• Train, mentor, and evaluate security personnel
• Ensure all posts are properly staffed and officers are trained and performing assigned duties
• Make recommendations on deployment and tactics
• Establish relations with local NYPD resources as well as adjoining Business Improvement Districts (e.g. Garment District BID)
• Ensure all Outdoor Security Officers are properly attired and look professional

Qualifications:
• Prior supervisory experience in security, law enforcement, or related field required
• Proven ability to engage professionally with individuals in vulnerable or high-stress situations, including those experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance-related impairment, and to safely de-escalate agitated or aggressive behavior
• Retired NYPD supervisor (Sergeant or above) strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of public safety practices and conflict resolution
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations with sound judgment
• Familiarity with NYC privately owned public space (POPS) regulations is a plus
• Valid NY State Security Guard License (or ability to obtain)
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Schedule: Full-Time (3:30 pm to 11:30 pm, Monday to Friday)
