STRUCTURAL WELDERS

As per the Ministry of Manpower, entry-level welders (tier 1) in the marine sector must earn at least S$2,900 per month under the PWM in 2026, following annual adjustments from S$2,600 in 2023. Mid-tier welders earn at least S$3,600, and supervisors S$5,100. This applies to all employers in covered shipyards.

Foreign semi-skilled welders require a Work Permit with a minimum basic salary of S$1,800 per month in the marine sector or S$1,600 in construction as of 2026. Skilled welders qualify for S Pass with minimum qualifying salary of S$3,500 per month, relevant diploma or 3 years experience, and employer sponsorship. Applications are processed via MOM's online portal within 3 weeks.

Entry-level welders need WSQ Certification in Welding Processes or equivalent, with no minimum education required. For S Pass, applicants must have a technical diploma or at least 3 years relevant experience. Work Permit holders must pass a MOM-approved welding trade test before deployment.

Required documents include a valid passport copy, 1 recent passport-sized photo, medical examination report from MOM-approved clinic (S$70 fee), and proof of passing welding trade test. Employer provides employment contract specifying S$1,800 minimum salary and security bond of S$5,000. Submit via WP Online portal before worker arrives.
