As per the Ministry of Labour Oman, the minimum wage for Omani welders in the private sector is OMR 450 per month effective January 2026 under Royal Decree 35/2003 as amended. Expatriate welders typically start at OMR 500 per month including basic allowance. Overtime is paid at 125% of hourly rate for first 8 hours beyond 48 weekly.

Foreign welders require a job offer from an Oman-approved sponsor and an electronic work permit from MOL before applying for a Type B work visa via ROP portal. The visa is valid for 2 years renewable, with application fee OMR 20 and medical test cost OMR 30 as of 2026. Approval takes 5-10 working days if documents match labor category 3 for welders.

Welders need a minimum of high school diploma or vocational ITI certificate in welding plus 2 years documented experience for MOL category approval as of 2026. Unskilled laborers without certification are ineligible for welder visas. Certified welders with AWS or equivalent get priority placement.

Required documents include passport copy valid 6 months, job offer letter, sponsor's commercial registration, medical fitness certificate, and police clearance, submitted via MOL e-service portal. Processing fee is OMR 10 per permit effective 2026. Incomplete applications are rejected within 3 days.
