Hiring Driver with own car in Muscat

As per the Ministry of Labour Oman, the minimum monthly salary for Omani drivers with high school education or equivalent in the private sector is OMR 400 as of January 2026. This applies to light vehicle drivers and excludes overtime pay, which is calculated at 125% of hourly rate for hours beyond 8 per day. Employers must register salaries via the Wage Protection System.

Foreign drivers require a sponsor-issued work visa and residence permit from the Ministry of Labour, valid for 2 years renewable. The employer applies online via MOL portal with fees of OMR 100 application plus OMR 10 per month levy starting 2026. Processing takes 5 working days upon submission of passport and job offer.

Applicants must hold at least a high school certificate or vocational training in driving, plus 2 years of verifiable experience on heavy vehicles as per Ministry of Labour standards for 2026. A clean driving record and Category 4 license are mandatory. No university degree is required for entry-level heavy driver positions.

Required documents include a valid passport copy, attested driving license from home country, medical fitness certificate issued within 3 months, and police clearance valid for 6 months. The employer submits these to MOL for work permit approval within 7 days. Two passport photos and employment contract signed by both parties are also needed.
