As per the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the adult minimum wage for plumbers is NZ$26.00 per hour effective 1 April 2026, with time-and-a-half for the first three overtime hours after 40 hours per week. Plumbers must also receive at least NZ$1,040 per week when working full-time under this rate.

As per Immigration New Zealand, overseas plumbers apply for the Accredited Employer Work Visa requiring a job offer from an accredited employer, NZ$29.66 per hour minimum pay threshold, and a skills match assessment. The visa duration is up to three years with possible extensions.

As per the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, applicants must hold a current practising licence from the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board plus a Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Plumbing. Three years of documented experience is mandatory for full licensing.

As per Immigration New Zealand, applicants submit a certified copy of their PGDB practising licence, NZQA qualification assessment, passport, and employment contract showing NZ$61,600 minimum annual salary. Police certificates from the last five years are also required.
