As per the Chief Labour Commissioner, the minimum wage for skilled welder in Zone I central sphere is ₹26,930 per month (₹1,035 daily rate including VDA) effective 1st October 2026 for 26 working days. Overtime beyond 8 hours is paid at twice the ordinary rate of ₹1,035 per hour. This applies to establishments under central jurisdiction like railways and PSUs.

Candidates need to pass class 8th and complete a 1-year ITI course in Welder (Gas & Electric) trade with NCVT certification. No prior work experience is required for apprenticeships or junior roles. Age eligibility is 14-40 years depending on the trade quota.

Mandatory documents include Aadhaar number, PAN card, bank passbook, ITI Welder certificate, 10th marksheet, and two passport photos. Upload scanned copies during free registration on ncs.gov.in. Skill test may be required for shortlisting.

Under OSH Code 2020, welders work up to 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week with at least one paid weekly off on Sunday. Annual leave with wages is 15 days after 240 days of work in a year. Women welders get 26 weeks maternity leave.
