As per the UK Government, the National Living Wage for welders aged 21 and over is £12.80 per hour from 1 April 2026, equating to £497.60 for a 38.9-hour week. Overtime must be paid at least 1.5 times this rate under the Working Time Regulations. Employers must display the current rates on payslips from that date.

As per the UK Government, welders applying for a Skilled Worker visa in 2026 require a minimum salary of £38,700 or the going rate for the occupation code 5211, whichever is higher. The visa lasts up to 5 years and requires a Certificate of Sponsorship issued no earlier than 3 months before application. Dependants are allowed only if the salary exceeds £38,700.

As per the UK Government, welders must hold a Level 2 or 3 NVQ Diploma in Welding or equivalent plus a valid CSCS card for construction sites. Applicants need at least 2 years of documented experience verified by references. No formal degree is mandated but English language at B1 level is required for visa routes.
